What is Thai or Yoga Massage?
Thai yoga massage was first brought to Thailand from India by Dr Shivaga Gomarpaj, the personal physician of Guatama, the last Buddha, approximately 2,600 years ago as Buddhism traveled from India. Greater India had been the guardian of yoga for several thousands of years at this time and had created its own form of massage. Buddha's physician was a yogi. In yoga philosophy it is known that imbalances arise when the energy lines of the body become blocked.
In many forms of natural healing we now understand that every body has a subtle energy field that functions as the blue print for the physical, mental and emotional bodies. Thai or yoga massage works to purify and unblock the major energy lines and thereby allow your own energy to flow unimpeded as required. This is achieved by direct energy line massage combined with yoga stretches.
Some 20% of the Thai population have Chinese ethnic origins. Over
the years the traditional Chinese system of accupressure has been
incorporated into traditional Thai yoga massage to produce a unique
system that works to free the body's own energy to enable healing
to occur naturally.
How Can Thai Yoga Massage Help?
Thai yoga massage is known for its many therapeutic benefits and is
excellent for maintenance of physical health, bringing relief to ailments
such as sciatica, headaches, back pain and many other physical imbalances.
Being an energy treatment, the emotions and mind are also effected
by a massage. Muscle tension, mental fatigue and many other stresses
that have been trapped in the body are brought to the surface where
it is naturally released.
What Does it Feel Like?
Thai yoga massage is a therapeutic form of massage that works the entire body. The experience is likened to participation in a yoga class - fluid movements with the body feeling recharged and alive at the end of the massage.
With Thai yoga massage the major energy lines of the body are worked
regardless of the physical complaint, as it is a holistic treatment,
rather than just localizing treatment to a specific area.
How is Thai Yoga Massage Performed?
Massage is a natural and beneficial experience. Thai yoga massage is mainly performed in a lying position on a futon. The client remains fully clothed during a massage. No oil or other lubricants are used.
Is this Type of Massage Suitable for Everyone?
Everyone benefits from a Thai yoga massage - the techniques are adjusted
to suit an individual as required. Thai yoga massage is therapeutic
for physical complaints and rejuvenating when used a general energy
treatment.
