Yoga is an ancient discipline that has flourished and continues
to be practiced in its many forms by millions of people all over the
world today. Yoga provides many benefits, such as physical
health, emotional stability, mental clarity and spiritual direction.
The word yoga simply means union. There are many paths or ways to achieve union, including:
· Hatha yoga - union by mastery of the physical body
· Raja yoga - union by mental mastery
· Bhakti yoga - union by love and devotion
· Jnana - union by knowledge
· Karma yoga - union by action and service
Hatha yoga is the most widely practiced yoga in the west. It is known
as the yoga of physical purification and discipline. The Hatha yogi
would argue that even in performing the basic physical techniques
of Hatha yoga one can't avoid touching upon the other aspects of yoga.
Any individual can safely practice Hatha yoga with correct guidance,
irrespective of age, physical strength, flexibility or belief system.
Dharma yoga was established with a vision to share yoga knowledge.
At Dharma we utilize the inspiration of the Himalayan yoga tradition
as the foundation of our teaching.
Each Dharma Hatha yoga class incorporates breathing techniques, yoga
stretches, yoga postures, progressive relaxation and/or meditation
in a comfortable rhythmical flow to stimulate and balance the entire
mind and body.
Yoga philosophy is also incorporated into Dharma classes to draw in elements of other branches of yoga.
Classes are available for students working at all levels. Some of
the classes offered each week include Beginners, Gentle, Open, Dynamic,
Pilates. Yoga, Pre-natal and Meditation.
Workshops and other courses are held regularly. Teacher
training apprenticeships are also available.
Jean-Alain d'Argent founded the centre in 1993. Jean-Alain has studied yoga in Australia, India and the United States, and is also qualified in Thai yoga massage and clinical hypnotherapy.
The name Dharma was chosen for its many meanings - truth, service, way of life. Dharma literally means 'that which holds your true nature'. In practice it implies one should consciously choose a way of life and maintain this to one's own highest standards.
Teachers are available for corporate sessions, workshops and retreats.
Please telephone the centre with your enquiries or to request a current timetable.
Dharma is open 7 days a week, providing both daytime and evening classes.
