So impressed was I with yoga that I took up a 2 year yoga teacher training course, while still at work, and commenced teaching in 2000. Now, in my retirement, I continue to teach as a service back to yoga. In my yoga class, I approach poses in a gentle and safe way. I work out with each participant, his or her physical limitations and respect and stay within those limitations. I believe that yoga should be available and accessible to everyone. I recognize that sometimes a class environment may not be suitable to a participant and a private session may be more appropriate. Although the approach to poses are gentle, my classes are nevertheless active and strong, to the participants’ limits. Poses are always performed incorporating full breathing. My aim as a teacher is to find the balance between gentle and challenging so that, for the duration of the class, participants’ minds are focused on their bodies and their breaths. By helping them to switch off from the cares of the day, they will be rejuvenated both mentally and physically. Outside yoga, I enjoy reading, gardening and listening to music. |
