Thai Yoga massage
Over the centuries different cultures have created their own unique health and healing modalities. In India the great mystics discovered via experimentation that the human body consisted of subtle currents that flowed along specific channelled pathways.
They realized that most physical and mental disorders came about due to an imbalance within these subtle channels. They also noted that correct manipulation of the current flow brought about healing, improve physical and mental health. The different refined techniques such as physical exercise, meditation and massage were all codified under the umbrella of Yoga Chikitsa ( yoga therapy).
Yoga Chikitsa gradually made its way across the world and was first brought to Thailand from India by Dr Shivaga Gomarpaj, the personal physician of Siddhartha Guatama, the last Buddha, approximately 2,600 years ago as Buddhism expanded from India to the rest of Asia. In time yoga massage blended with other styles that were practiced in the local areas. One main influence was the Chinese as at that time some 20% of the Thai population had Chinese ethnic origins. Over the years the traditional Chinese system of acupressure has been incorporated into traditional yoga massage to produce a unique system that works to free the body's own energy to enable healing to occur naturally. This unique cross pollination became known as Thai yoga massage.
